In network design, this concept is expanded to mean the center of the network. Typically focused on the WAN implementation, the network core layer is responsible for the rapid transfer of data and the interconnection of various distribution and access layers. Therefore, the core routers typically do not have access lists or other services that would reduce the efficiency of the network.
