Dufresne** and P. , 85 X, 38041 Grenoble Cedex, France ABSTRACT The low temperature internal friction spectrum of pure iron, plastically deformed at ambient temperature , is characterized by the a peak, which is attributed to the generation of kink pairs on non-screw dislocations. When deformed specimens are subsequently irradiated (n or e ~ ) , or plastically redeformed at low temperatures, the a peak is suppressed and replaced by the 3i peak, which has been attributed to the interaction between non-screw dislocations and intrinsic point defects.

Peyrade and P. , D6partement de Physique, 31077 Toulouse-Cedexf France ABSTRACT In order to study the interactions between dislocations and solute atoms involved in the solution softening of pure iron, the cold-work peaks are investigated in pure and doped iron. The internal friction after plastic deformation at about 100 K and 300 K is measured in a torsion pendulum between 4 and 500 K at frequencies near 1 Hz.

The parallel d e c r e a s e of the a-peak with annealing up to 400 K may be interpreted as being due to the background d e c r e a s e , with the r e a l peak intensity constant. After annealings above 400 K, both the peak intensity and temperature d e c r e a s e . Above 600 K annealings there is an i n c r e a s e of the oxygen content in the matrix, a s s o ciated with the i n c r e a s e in Snoek peak height. In figure 3 a r e shown the spectra obtained with a sample first after degassing and then after cold-work 3 % at 77 K.
